Interviewing with Chen-hong Ma for the Railway Cultural Heritage

      On Wednesday, we went to Jingsiou Station to wait for Mr. Chen-hong Ma. Even though we have interviewed with many people, we were still nervous and worried that we hadn’t prepared enough questions. Mr. Ma mentioned his railway police experience, so we learned that railway policemen were responsible for the security. His devotion to the trains and Taiwan’s railway cultural heritage is respectable. From the interview with Mr. Ma, I learned lots of railway knowledge and, the most important, realized that life is culture. His expectation for the Jingsiou Vanguard Team was to pass down the Taiwanese railway culture.


      The most rewarding thing in interviewing with Mr. Ma is that all interview questions were discussed and prepared by us and our teacher said the questions were great! Participating in the Cyberfair project gave me the opportunity to learn about the train. Being a part of the Jingsiou Vanguard Team is a mark and mission of my life.

Listening to the Expert Talk about the Yuanlin Elevated Railway

      Mr. Chen-hong Ma from the Babuza Railway Culture Office came to Jingsiou Station again. He has a bond with the railway for a long time. However, the work of saving the railway relics wasn’t easy at all. Dedicating to the railway culture heritage, they often worry and feel helpless for the neglected railway culture.


      Mr. Ma is opposed to constructing the Yuanlin Elevated Railway because of the huge reconstruction expenses and the difficulty of rescue and recovery in case of an accident. People will no longer hear the signal sound of the railroad crossing, and enjoy the beauty of the railway from a short distance. The distance between the railway and people will let the railway culture disappear. He thinks it wasn’t bad maintaining a ground-level railway; however, the Yuanlin Railway doesn’t exist any more. As he said using the camera to record the environment may save a cultural heirloom. Now I also record the life with cameras.
