Love Yuanlin Railway Painting Contest

After the Yuanling Elevated Railway opened to traffic on November 2, 2014, Yuanlin Train Station, old railways, platforms, old apartments, old banyan trees, overpasses were quickly removed. Many people have started to talk about the old time’s Yuanlin Railway. In order to arouse the new generation’s interest and discussion on cultural assets of Yuanling Railway, the Jingsiou Vanguard Team planned the Love Yuanlin Railway Painting Contest. After discussions, we decided to have two themes: Railway Silo and Taiwan Sugar Yuanlin Station. We thank Ya-hui You, a Jingsiou Vanguard Team volunteer, assisted us in drawing B4 lines with computer.

After the semester assessment, January 19, 2015, the Jingsiou Vanguard Team started to distribute drawing papers to the entire school, 60 classrooms. We asked that the schoolmates used their imagination to paint and write down their revitalization ideas. Due to too many participants, we asked that each class teacher screened works of his/her own class to select some good works first. Then, we invited art teachers to select 50 Outstanding and 50 Excellence award-wining works from over 200 works.

On the 27th, Principal Huang, President Hsiao, Mrs. Hsiao, and Teacher Mei-tu awarded certificates and took photos with the winners. The Outstanding award-wining works were made as display boards, and the Excellence award-wining works were collected into books. They will be displayed in Jingsiou Station for a long time. The ceremony was simple but solemn. The creative railway painting and revitalization ideas encouraged people to think. The Jingsiou Vanguard Team collected the winners’ ideas and list as follows:

What can the Railway Silo change into? The ideas of award-wining works include railway museum, agriculture museum, library, art museum, tourism attraction, historical site, railway station, department store, castle, hunted house, and colorful Yuanlin silo.

What can Taiwan Sugar Yuanlin Station change into? Most answers are railway theme pavilion. The other answers are café, tourism restaurant, railway station, park, carton house, bed and breakfast, art studio, and arcade.

We have been innocent, have had dream, and wanted to change the reality, so we could make the ordinary life extraordinary. The Yuanlin Elevated Railway neighborhoods have entered a new stage of development and are waiting for people who love the land to build a dream together.

When we interviewed town chief Zhang, he suggested to expand the collection of public opinions. Therefore, in addition to increasing the number of questionnaires, we decided to consult for the opinions of modification of Railway Silo and Taiwan Sugar South Yuanlin Station respectively in the color drawing of Love Yuanlin Railway. It was the final term when we solicit contributions of black and white color drawing, the students in Class 66 of Jingsiou Elementary School had a hot reaction, so each class preliminarily reviewed the draft and then submitted it to Jingsiou Vanguard Team. We saw the students in Jingsiou have infinite creation and their new opinions were very attractive.

Outside the school, we invited the National Yuanlin Senior High School beside the railway, soon, the color drawing activity was also carried out busily in National Yuanlin Senior High School. Finally we preferably selected four unique wonderful works, through the works and fb hot discussion, most people loved the work “People Take Food as the First Need”. Dominated by rice, the five-color people representing five continents form a circular forest surrounding the rice. The buffalo on the left and egret on the right represent the hard work and harvest, wishing Yuanlin to have a prosperous harvest every year.
