Yan Zhenqing

Yan Zhenqing (A.D.707~784) is known for his Yan calligraphic style. He learned hard and passed examination to become a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations for many times. When he was 18 or 19 years old, he was sick on bed for over 100 days and could not get over until eating a cinnabar and a Dan medicine from Beishanjun Taoist priest.
The priest asked to meet him after his death at the place between Yi River and Luo River. At that time, Yan learned a little about Taoism in spare time, but believed himself a big fish in politics. After getting over, Yan was appointed as supervisor censor, but due to his integrity, he was set up by Lv Qi who is proved a traitor.
In order to show his own loyalty to the emperor, Yan committed suicide after leaving posthumous papers at the age of 77. It was said that his family found his coffin rotten when back Beijing but his body was still soft and even disappeared on half way home. That’s why a lot of people said Yan became an immortal after death.
