Sansheng Temple Charity Bazaar
→Reflection
1. Activity background:
With the Chinese New Year approaching, Chingsau Elementary School, under the sponsorship of Sansheng Temple, Yuan Ching Lions Club, and members of the Taiwanese parliament, was to organize a Chinese New Year celebration featuring Spring Festival couplets written with an ink brush, handing out free Spring Festival couplets, talent shows, and charity bazaars.
2. Activity date and venue:
Time: January 18, 2014
Venue: Sansheng Temple
3. Activity content:
Over 10 master calligraphers were invited to write Spring Festival couplets with an ink brush to give out to Chingsau community residents and express their wishes for a happy Chinese New Year. Talent shows, charity bazaars, and fundraising activities were all organized today. Merchandises sold for charity included calligraphic works by the “The Nine Prodigies of Huangsi” for NT$ 3,000 each artwork, Principal Huang Jung-sen’s handwritten “Continual Fortune” paper clay drop ornaments for NT$ 80 each ornament and NT$150 for a pair, and postcard sets featuring works by the “The Nine Prodigies of Huangsi” for NT$120 each set. In doing so, we hoped that everyone could show their generosity to lay one more brick, light one more lamp, and ignite one more hope for less fortunate children.
4. Afterthoughts:
As it was our first time to extend fundraising activities beyond school campus, we were all slightly nervous. Luckily, Chingsau community residents were all kind-hearted people who responded to our fundraising activities with great enthusiasm. Our handmade paper clay artworks particularly catered to residents’ taste and were sold out instantly.
