The Reflection Of Calligraphic Activities

By Guo Xin-yu
We designed eight theme activities for a series of game tournaments. I was responsible for “jumble sale for charity” so I need to sell poster cards and clay works. In order to attract more audience, we help people mail their cards to friends or relatives as long as they put cards into a “happiness delivery” box.
However, some people thought that the clay works are too expensive to buy. I felt a little frustrated since we would donate the entire amount we get for charity instead of for ourselves. Finally, we earned NT$ 3200 in this activity. Although the amount is not enough to build an orphanage in Africa, I understand the meaning of “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

The theme of this calligraphy tournament is “Masters of Sulpher Creek”. Mrs. Lin designed eight games for the students. We practiced repeatedly to make sure we were as prepared as possible for this activity.
It was full of people in the field. One of the most popular activities is “ink painting”, which attracted lots of people to join. The participant used a straw to blow ink drops, trying to produce unique works. It’s a special experience for me to attend this meaningful event.

We do lots of prior works including poster-making and props-making for a series of calligraphy activities. I was responsible for “Chinese characters”, trying to arouse people’s interest in calligraphy art. Thus, people would learn how to distinguish the various types like Seal script (zhuanshu), Clerical script (lishu), Standard script (kaishu), Semicursive script (xingshu), and Cursive script (caoshu). We hope that people would cultivate the habit of practicing calligraphy and try to appreciate the beauty of traditional culture. With the help of volunteers, I had more courage to explain the content without nervous.
