Interview with Xu Jin- Fa

By   Guo Xin-yu
On Monday morning, we came to the science classroom to interview Xu Jin-Fa, a member of “Masters of Sulphur Creek”.
At the beginning, Xu made a brief introduction for us and explained his inspiration for his works. “Actually, my evaluations from audience vary widely; in the other words, people who don’t appreciate my work think they are terrible.” said Xu. “Because I liked to present the feeling of ‘painting with words, words have painted’, most of my works are abstract painting” He added.
I felt satisfied with the interview and I learned one thing is that artists must stay true to their own style.

Today, we’re going to interview a calligrapher, Xu Jin-Fa. To my surprise, the driftwood enlightened his calligraphy career. Xu explained that anything can be a good brush as long as it can soak the ink. In his opinion, a wonderful piece reflects one’s real lives. Thus, his work can resonate with the audience.
Then, Xu mentioned that he made a deep impression on the tea party hosted by Yuanlin Township Office since he hadn’t seen so many audiences before.
Finally, he exhorted us that the most important thing is to express your emotion when you write calligraphy. I thought Xu is so special that he is always full of confidence with his works. I hope I can interview him next time.

Today, we were going to interview Xu Jin-Fa, a retired teacher from Jing-Siou elementary school. First of all, he told that he regarded calligraphy as his hobby because his teacher gave him an ink brush.
Xu was majored in Art department so he is good at painting. At that time, he got no idea about the meaning of calligraphy work in cursive script; thus, he had decided to recite all words in cursive script and practiced cursive script. I was astonished at his willpower.
“I had no enlightened teacher in my calligraphy career since I just tried to write my work as beautiful as the grain on driftwoods. Thus, driftwoods are my best teachers.” he said. Besides, I thought Xu is an arbitrary person so his inspiration is omnipresent in daily life. He is an avid calligrapher with intensive personal style. I hope I’ll be a master like him in the future.
