A Fundraising Event at the Yuanlin Station

→Reflection

1. Activity background:
While discussing about organizing a charity bazaar with with the Sansheng Temple Committee Chairperson, school teachers heard that there would be another Spring Festival couplets calligraphy exhibition at Yuanlin Station on January 25th, 2014 and decided to organize another fundraising event.

2. Event date and venue:
Time: January 25th, 2014
Venue: Yuanlin Station.

3. Event content:
As the beautifully-printed postcards were unsuccessful in wining favor from the public in previous charity bazaars, we decided to hand out promotional gifts to encourage donations from the public. When we arrived at Yuanlin Station at 10am, there were already long lines of people next to the worktable, waiting to receive Spring Festival couplets from master calligraphers.

Carrying small boxes filled with postcards for fundraising, we put on a big smile and went on the fundraising adventure. Standing outside the train station with numerous people passing by, we looked for passengers who did not seem to be in a hurry as it meant that they were not pressed for time and were more likely to listen to us. We also tried to ask for monetary donations from nearby shops. Many passengers, who were curious about our “little vanguards of love”, came to ask about our intention. Learning that we were raising money for orphans, they immediately donated money to us. Some other people, however, walked away without even looking, which showed us various people in the world. All in all, we were quite happy to get support from so many good-hearted people today.

4. Afterthoughts:
Chingsau Elementary School teachers, students, and parents’ love never ceased even in winter vacation. The Parents Association president bought seven Chinese calligraphic artworks from the master calligraphers. The Parents Association president at Nanjou Elementary School and students’ parents also sent out their love unreservedly, which made a great contribution to our fundraising as a lot of small donations together added up to a lot. As acts of piety and charity shall never be delayed, we were delighted to be able to make efforts for orphans in remote villages and Amitofo Care Centre.
