3. Activity content:
Walking through the Nanjou Elementary School campus, which was decorated with omnipresent calligraphic works, we noticed an array of calligraphic works in clerical script and semi-cursive script above the flower beds on the right-hand side of the school gate. These works were mostly from the “The Nine Prodigies of  Huangsi”. The teachers instructed us to read out our favorite sentences or phrases on these works and express how we felt about these sentences or phases. On the left side of the school gate, there was a gallery with calligraphic works of Chinese proverbs and idioms, and one work among the exhibition was from a Nanjou Elementary School student! At the corner outside the school gate, there was another exhibition entitled “the Rebirth of Old Trees’, which contained a total of 10 calligraphic works mainly in running and cursive script as well as seal and clerical script by five members of the “The Nine Prodigies of  Huangsi”.

4. Afterthoughts:
Over the past few months, eventually, we not only felt these calligraphy works appeared more approachable but also began to appreciate artworks of different styles and imagine what messages authors of these works intended to express!
