After the General Manager of Mushroom Tribe - Fang, Shi Wen introduced to us its farm, we asked some questions. The content is as follows:
1. Hello, Manager Fang, could you please give us a brief introduction of the course of your struggle?
In the 82nd year of Republic Era, growing mushroom required me to get up at 4 every morning. You can’t cultivate them during summer and it was too cold in the winter, but it is different now. Because of air-conditioner, mushrooms can adapt to the weather of four seasons! In the 88th year of Republic Era, I rented an old mushroom farm, which was so old that it probably couldn’t withstand typhoon. I grew ganoderma, edible tree fungi and oyster mushrooms on it and earned some money. Until the 90th year of Republic Era, I bought this 1980-square-meter land. 19 years since, it has extended from 1980 square meters to 59,400 square meters.
2. Why did you want to cultivate mushrooms using a novel but risky approach and how did you overcome obstacles?
Novelty is a very important step for human being to make progress. We, psychologically and materially, are looking for a variety of satisfaction and thus, innovation is not to be evaded. Just as what Student Zhang said, it can be risky to challenge tradition, but you should not be confined to it, especially when you are so young. Innovation, I think, is what motivates one to go forward.
3. What kind of mushroom is the best seller?
Golden mushrooms ranked second presently in Taiwan. The most popular in Taiwan is shiitake, the big ones. The third best seller is king oyster mushrooms.
4. How many employees are needed to process the procedures after mushrooms cultivation?
After mushrooms were cultivated, it used to take 60 employees to produce 60,000 packs of mushrooms products, but now, because of automation, it only takes 25 employees. The workforce can be reduced through automation.
5. Have you established a fan page for Mushroom Tribe?
Yes, we have. You’re welcome to search Mushroom Tribe on Facebook.
6. What kind of mushroom do you recommend the most?
It is abalonus, because it’s really tasty. We have prepared some abalonus meals for you to taste. You can enjoy it.
