After listening to the introduction given by Mr. Zhang, Jian Feng and Ms. Zhuang, Yong Qing from Ben Feng Farm, we raised a few questions. The content is as follows:
1. May I ask if there are other kinds of mushrooms grown here besides king oyster mushrooms?
On Ben Feng Farm, there is only king oyster mushrooms. Normally, a farm can only grow a kind to two considering the time difference in different kinds of mushrooms’ culture and cultivation. In addition, different kinds of mushrooms can be mutually exclusive, which will lead to a failure in growing them.
2. I’m wondering how many mushrooms can be harvested per cultivation room?
There are 9000 FIBC bags in one cultivation room. We collect for 3 to 5 days, and the mushrooms we harvest can aggregate a thousand kilogram.
3. I’d like to know if the yield in summer is more abundant or in winter?
It depends because the weather in Taiwan is unstable and mushrooms are highly sensitive. In four seasons, sometimes south wind blows and sometimes, north wind blows, so we have to adjust the cultivation rooms in accordance with wind direction.
4. I want to know if the farm has ever faced pests and diseases?
Yes, we have. Therefore, after every time we harvest, we do a thorough disinfection before we grow a new batch of mushrooms.
5. What kind of mushroom is most difficult is grow?
My answer would be Shiitake because it has to grow in a natural environment. There are many traditional mushroom farms in Nantou. They put them on the ground with black nets laid over, but it’s hard to evade pests and diseases.
6. How many grams of king oyster mushroom can a FIBC bag yield?
270 grams per bag on average on Ben Feng Farm.
7. What are the sales channels for mushrooms?
Mushroom are normally sold to shopping malls such as COSTCO, RT Mart, Far Eastern A Mart, PX Mart and Carrefour. The second channel is traditional market, namely wet market, where king oyster mushrooms are also sold to restaurants. One other channel is night market. In terms of sales volume, we sell most to shopping malls.
