Let’s Sing

The Old Alma Master of Jing-Siou with the San-Sen Temple

Think back during the Chin Dynasty, the nature environment of Nan-Ping Chateau, located to the west of Yuan-Lin, were nothing but fields of green. Lots of people resided here. Nan-Ping Chateau was called Ding-Zhuang, and most residents had Young as their last name. The Xia Chateau had five major last names: Lai, Lu, Huang, Chang and Fon. The Chang worshipped Guan Yin Da Shi and Bao Gong, and was called the Bao Gong Temple. It became the main location of faith and religion for the Nan-Ping Chateau. It was later relocated to Ding-Zhuang and was named San-Sen Temple. The believers were massive in number and gradually became the center of faith for the community.

Miss Chiu rewrote and taught the students to sing the 60-year-old Alma Master

Students were trying really hard to look for the school treasure in the School History Room.

In 1951, education resources were not enough, and students from Nan-Ping, Da-Pu, and San-Yi needed to walk really far to the only school in Yuanlin, “The First National School in Yuanlin”. The local gentries worked hard to raise fund and built another school “The Nan Ping Branch” north to Jing-Siou Road. “Jing-Siou National School” was built in September, 1953. Chuan-Hen Chang was the first principal. He rewrote the lyric of a popular song as the cheering song when participating a united sport event in Yuanlin Township. The lyric went: “Nan-Ping, Da-Pu, Yuan-Tan and San-Yi. 300 students studied in Jing-Siou. They are innocent, smart and brave. They bring victory!” The song was sang in many important events afterwards.

Sing the old Alma Master and the Song of San-Sen Temple together

Miss Chiu had rewritten lyrics of the old Alma Master four times already

From then on, the school participated a sport event outside of school every year. With the increasing numbers in students, the simple Alma Master was rewritten with more and more lyrics from 300 something words to a thousand words. But when time changed, the old Alma Master was no longer sang and was gradually forgotten. In 1995, a new Alma Master was written for the 45th anniversary of the school.

To pass on the history of Jing-Siou, this old Alma Master has been a must-teach-must-sing material in Miss Chiu’s curriculum in Local Language. In 2006, Miss Chiu added in lyrics for the Rainbow Story Team. In 2012, she rewrote the song to fit with the theme that was describing San-Sen Temple in the community, and added the Web Exhibition activity to make it fun. Let us all try to sing this old Alma Master. The lyrics are as followed:
